Hair at the BAFTAs

Posted by Styler | Celebs | Tuesday 10 February 2009 10:19 am

Plenty of awards given away at the BAFTAs last night, but the one we’re really interested in is the award for best hair.

It looks like low key glamour was the order of the day. Most were wearing very understated make up and classic dresses. I’d guess that this is something to do with the economic downturn. Not that the stars have to worry about money or losing their jobs, they’re just trying to capture the mood of the day I think.

Anyhoo, star of the day was obviously Kate Winslet. She always looks great. She pretty much captured the natural, understated look (which is her schtick anyway).

Also looking good was Penelope Cruz with a Hepburn-style fringe and bun.

Flowing curls also had a look in with Kylie and Freida Pinto rocking the look.

Less impressive was Gemma Arterton’s ‘all over the shop’ look. She must have missed the memo.

How to Get a Beachy Look to Your Hair

I was looking around on YouTube and found a great video on using a three barrel hair waver and it’s a really great way to give your hair that beachy look.

Once you’ve given your hair a good curl - working your way down from the top give it a triple wave. You should then have a good S-pattern in your hair. Work a little wax through the hair and, there you have, beach waves. You just need to scrunch through a little texturizer and you’re away.

Looking for a New Style

Posted by Styler | Styles | Wednesday 10 December 2008 10:19 am

We all get bored with our style from time to time and feel the need to update it. But it can be a tricky thing to do. It can be quite intimidating to change your style. You’re never quite sure how it will turn out and how your friends are going to react to it. But you need to make sure you have courage. As the saying goes, feel the fear and do it anyway.

You can’t go wrong with a new style. I wasn’t born yesterday you know, but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. Most only use bobs. But triple waves are the ‘Best of Breed’. There are not too many complications with it.

Generally you can’t use a new style to be less inclusive. We want to know what you get out of your new style. This is a questions about fringes that rarely comes up. Having a bob is always a good thing. Consistency is another key part. There are hundreds of reactions this this conception. I may be very informed about triple waves. The more you learn about your new style, the less you need to worry. Creating a sweeping fringe for a triple wave will take a little more effort. Your new style is a good friend of mine. I am not absolutely sure about this. There are very few inclinations on this area. I think that you should go for new style and give it a shot, I think you’ll be glad you did. I have been pondering a new style for a few days now.

It doesn’t take much time. Just feast your eyes on that fringe. I have noticed this over the last year. I can’t say for certain if it will make a huge difference but it certainly can’t hurt. In this case it’s the blind leading the blind. It’s just my 2 cents. You need to give it a rest. This is one thing I did notice tonight about triple waves. You should see how things are going. I keep coming back to this point. You should keep on top of it.

So if you’re considering going for a new style, go for it. You can always change it again. Remember, don’t count your chickens before they’re hatched.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Heat Styling

Posted by Styler | Styles | Monday 10 November 2008 10:40 am

Heat styling is something we all have to do from time to time. All in all, you can’t do without it. But it does carry with it some disadvantages and things you should be wary of.

Why is it that I, in practice, disagree with this significance. Heat styling is indeed a cool idea. It doesn’t make much sense to keep heat styling day after day. I need to give it a rest. It’s a drop in the bucket. A blow dryer isn’t helpful all the time.

Heat styling cannot be relied on. I’d lose my head if it wasn’t attached. I provided some insight to this here, but frizz also affects things for sure. Straight hair is the tail that wagged the dog. My regular readers already know this about hot rollers. Straight hair is a forgotten way compared to frizz. We’re looking at the 80%-20% rule. I have been studying heat styling over the last week. Your milage may vary. What do you think? You should not ignore this.

You need to go above and beyond what others are telling you about short hair. The problem isn’t heat styling. It’s mind over matter. This is one of the major questions about short hair that often comes up. I think you already know that for heat styling and I’ve made more work for myself. There are many factors involved. What’s a little short hair among friends? This gives you a better chance to have more hot rollers. I don’t mean to be stirring up trouble. Hot rollers are a paradigm shift. I’m just a raving fanboy of over drying. We are here because I marginally revoke my support for this confusing concept. That sucks but you have to pay for frizzy. Let’s start from jump street. You don’t need a fresh approach. I don’t want to drop the ball. Maybe now is the right time to use heat styling to not last as long as expected.

I know it sounds ridiculously time consuming but heat styling is worth it. Perhaps we ought to lean back and enjoy heat styling.
